Tell me if it’s bad. Plus if you have an idea for a title tell me that too. I’ve got a few names floating around in my head, but none are really standing out to me. I also wrote a few more lines, but it seemed appropriate to cut it off where I did. If you think there should be more let me know. Or if you think I should commit ritual seppuku because this poem is so atrocious let me know that, as well.
"White Lights" (one of the working titles)
When I woke this morning
My Christmas tree was burning,
Engulfed by a flaw
In that which gave it beauty.
As I watched it burn
It seemed like a fitting end,
Cremation of the corpse
Of something I had chopped down,
Stolen from the wilderness,
In order to temporarily improve
My home, to liven it up,
Make it appear more festive.
But then the smell of simmering plastic
Assaulted my weakened senses
And I remembered that this year
I had decided to use a fake tree
Which somehow seemed just as fitting
Given that I’m an atheist
With Christmas decorations.
(I just added the last two lines. Maybe I should take them out?)
